US-Ukraine Peace Talks End Without Major Breakthrough

The meeting, held on Sunday, September 6, followed a more than three-hour meeting between the U.S. envoys and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The Kyiv discussions were described by the participants as “substantive” and “meaningful,” but no major agreement or breakthrough toward ending the war was announced.

The talks reportedly focused on possible steps toward a renewed peace process, as well as Ukraine’s security, air-defence needs and preparations for the coming winter. The U.S. envoys said they were encouraged by the discussions and expressed hope that direct Russia-Ukraine negotiations could resume.

However, significant disagreements remain between Moscow and Kyiv, particularly over territory and security guarantees, making an immediate peace agreement difficult.

Witkoff and Kushner have now left Kyiv, with the latest discussions failing to produce a breakthrough but keeping Washington’s diplomatic efforts alive.
