Niger’s Defence Minister, General Salifou Modi, said the attackers targeted several important sites in Niamey, but security forces responded swiftly and managed to contain the attack and gradually regain control of the affected areas.
In a statement issued on Saturday, General Modi said the situation was returning to normal, while security personnel continued to secure key locations across the capital.
He also assured residents that the city remains calm and that people are continuing with their daily activities freely and without major disruption.
The latest incident comes after a similar attack in Niger in January 2026, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of several soldiers before security forces succeeded in repelling the attackers and killing dozens of them.
